Former vice president of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, has rejected the agitation for a Sovereign National Conference (SNC) even as he called for national dialogue to resolve the challenges facing the country. Speaking yesterday at the Basilica of the Holy Trinity, Onitsha during the 10th Episcopal Anniversary of the Archbishop of Onitsha and Metropolitan of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev Dr. Valerian Okeke, Dr. Ekwueme said there was need for national dialogue.

He said his earlier call for a national confab during the regime of the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha could not yield any fruit because of the influence of the military but he however maintained that the democratic principle will now play active role in any call for national conference.  Also speaking, the Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev Dr. Valerian Okeke who marked the 10th anniversary of his Episcopal ordination at Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, called for proper understanding of the need to come together to achieve peace.

Most Rev. Okeke also urged Ndigbo to make sure they always come home to build a formidable force that would be anchored on unity to achieve anything they want in future, adding that the major problem facing Ndigbo as a people was their lack of unity of purpose. “There is need for Ndigbo to come home and build a formidable front and also help us rebuild our states. It will help us back to our feet, because it appears our brothers and sisters have forgotten that they came from home and should build the home for the future of our people”

The cleric also said that the country is passing through a lot of challenges which he said included insecurity and added that bombing  and other security challenges in some parts of the country were being masterminded by a selected few elements that do not have the spirit of God.  “Those people that throw bomb on our brothers in the North may think that we don’t have a place to stay if we leave their states, but if Ndigbo come home and build their investments in Igbo land, they will know we have homes”

The cleric also called for establishment of vocational institutes for the younger generation, adding “we should direct our children to be productive because that is the only way to achieve greatness which Ndigbo is known for”.

In his sermon, the Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev (Dr) Calistus Onaga described the level of development in the Archdiocese under the leadership of Archbishop Okeke as monumental and urged him to continue with the good works.

    Dear Dr. Ekwueme,
Could you please state your stand clearer?

You want a national dialogue but not a national conference?

Difficult to understand how a dialogue can happen if there is NO conference (reasoning together).

Difficult to understand in what form the DIALOGUE would take place. Telephone, Email or through mediators?

Can two people move together except they agree to….as noted in the holy bible?

Or you were just saying SAME thing but diluting it to make it appear you were saying something else for some reasons that we “children” may not understand?

Come on Sir, you are a BIG voice that people listen to. Please clarify if….

Whatever we term it, “conference” or “dialogue”, majority Nigerians are burning to re-access the forced marriage asap. And it is just rightful to respect this call and help give us a voice.

This selfish attitude is the reason nigeria will soon be a gods country! It’s shocking an Iboman would say no sovereign national conference(SNC), Why! This self-served Ekwueme is now living with the belief that his juicy treament from Jonathan will last forever. You are is an example of a typical Nigeria with goat mentality; seeing food you are eating make you forget about everything. Wrong headed people!
