— Chairman of Imo State Stakeholders Forum and PDP chieftain, Nze Elvis Agukwe has declared that the people of the state now have a credible alternative to Governor Rochas Okorocha and therefore should not waste time in voting the APC government out on February 28, 2015.
Speaking to newsmen after a campaign rally at Ideato Nation, home town of Okorocha by PDP governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, Agukwe described the APC government “as an institution of fraud, lies and deceit which Imo people are tired of”.
“Even his kinsmen (Okorocha) are begging us to remove their son from office because of the level of impunity and corruption which has characterized governance in Imo State in the last four years. I am happy that our people now have an alternative”, he said.
Agukwe, a former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the state described the free education policy of Okorocha as a “monumental fraud and farce which is an instrument of deception, propaganda and corruption”.
He said the PDP candidate, Hon Ihedioha would not only offer a qualitative free education to Imo students but ensure that the teachers are trained and re-trained to offer their best for the overall development of education.
According to him, “Before Okorocha, Imo used to maintain first, second and third positions in public examinations. But what do we have now? Education has been degraded. All we have is noise upon noise of free education”.
Agukwe also bemoaned the fate of civil servants whom he noted had suffered deprivation including lack of in-service training, promotions and massive deductions from their salaries.
He said the youths have also been abandoned as those who were offered employment during Ikedi Ohakim’s government were sacked by Okorocha for no just reason.
He pledged that Ihedioha would not only restore those 10,000 jobs when he become governor but go ahead to employ more youths so as to ensure a better living condition for them.
The former commissioner also announced that the government of PDP will conduct local government elections within its first one year in office as well as restore the local government development areas scrapped by Okorocha.
“Ihedioha believes in participatory governance and empowerment of the people. Conversely, Rochas is running a government by Rochas for Rochas. This is where Imo people should choose this better and credible alternative”, he submitted.
He however praised the people of Imo State for standing for the unity of the state through the enthronement of a governor from Owerri Zone.
He expressed optimism that with the new found love and unity among PDP leaders in Imo State, it was only a matter of time for Ihedioha to assume office as governor of Imo State.
Agukwe therefore urged Imo people to hasten the collection of their permanent voter’s cards since it is the weapon “we have to banish impunity, tyranny and corruption from our state”.
